BAYKO Parts List - 1949 to 1959
The Peak Period

Detailed below are the complete parts lists for the BAYKO sets from the production between 1949 and 1959, which includes both the peak and the beginning of the end of BAYKO.
I hope you find this useful - if you've spotted an error in the list or want to debate any of the figures…
Sets were now in the red, white and mid-green colour scheme, the latter drifting to lighter green as the POLYSTYRENE windows arrived.
There is some debate over why the post-war BAYKO set structure changed so significantly from the pre-war structure…
The following colour codes refer to sections of the main table [below] : -
The #3X and #4 Sets included this [then] recently launched range of new parts highlighted in green below.
The Corner Bricks contents [6 x red & 18 white] are illogical, though correct, 8 x red & 16 x white would make far more sense for building. I can't help but wonder if this was a transcription error which, somehow, never got corrected, unless they were allowing for 'fencing' usage!

Here I have shown the inclusion of both the sets #0 - #3 manual and the set #4 manual. This was correct up to August, 1954, when the sets #0 - #4 manual was introduced. At this point, there was no longer a need for the sets #0 - #3 manual in set #4, so it was dropped. Thanks to Peter Crook for identifying the need for this clarification.
The parts highlighted in blue were not included in the earliest #3X conversion sets, however, once set #4 was introduced, in 1952, they were 'retrospectively' added to conversion set #3X, which changed box size to accommodate them.
The parts shown in red were introduced in the late 1950s but only detailed in the published parts list in the last two manuals in late 1959. 'MECCANO MAGAZINE' hinted at them in May, 1958, but the Garage Doors [A.K.A. Opening Doors] weren't launched until mid 1959.
Sadly neither manual includes the Ramp or T.V. Aerial in the listed conversion set parts for sets #0 to #3, but…
…the inclusion, here, of the Garage Doors in set #2x is correct, though illogical…
I haven't referred to this as the peak period for nothing, as BAYKO now had the largest range of different parts at any time in it's history.
The #4 set was first advertised in 'MECCANO Magazine' in February, 1952, it seems strange, to me, to have started with the conversion set #3X.
There is a conundrum over the earliest set #3X. These were in smaller boxes, missing the Dome and both Pinnacle pieces. After acquiring several of these, all lacking any sort of internal cardboard structure. While I know absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, I now believe there was no internal cardboard.  When the larger set #3X was introduced, at roughly the same time as the set #4, normal cardboard infrastructure service was resumed!
The #3X Conversion Set was planned for availability in February, 1951, but was actually first advertised in July, 1951, though it was also included in both April, 1951 BAYKO Fliers and Parts Price Lists. The first BAYKO set #3X manual is, sadly, undated…

Until the late 1950s, this was by far the most commercially successful period for BAYKO, but it also included the seeds of its own demise through lack of innovation.
Manufacture of Windows, Doors and many Bricks gradually migrated from plastic to POLYSTYRENE during the second half of this period.
This post-war period was almost littered with manuals, there were so many variants even allowing for the ten years…
…in fact there were no less than thirty different versions in the ten years covered by this period…
