BAYKO Parts List - 1946 to 1949

Detailed below are the complete parts lists for the BAYKO sets from the production between 1946 and 1948.
I hope you find this useful - if you've spotted an error in the list or want to debate any of the figures...

There is a debate in some BAYKO circles as to why the post-war BAYKO set structure changed so significantly from the pre-war set structure...

These sets were now in the red, white and apple green colour scheme initially, with a switch to mid green after around 12 months or so.
During this period there were actually quite a few parts produced in unusual colours [right, lower], including Bases [right, upper] as post-war material shortages and war-time plastics development lead to a significant amount of improvisation by Plimpton. The slips are shown courtesy of Bob Burgess.
This manufacturing approach was far from being unusual at the time, indeed an independent article, printed in 'Toy Trader', in the April, 1946 edition, indicates that this was widespread amongst British manufacturers at the time...
Slip, included in early sets, offering to swap Bases for ones of a matching colour

A post-war BAYKO model Bungalow on translucent pale green Bases
These sets saw the launch of the new parts which are highlighted in yellow in the main table [below].
The Flat Roofs were produced for the first year or so with a diamond pattern rather than the standard tiling.
This was the first production period after the war. The relaunch was gradual over the period as post-war austerity gradually relaxed.
A post-war BAYKO model Detached House with rare Grey Canopy and Bay Window Covers
There were short term experiments during this period with Grey for these pieces, but it proved unpopular and was abandoned.
Steps and Bases were also briefly produced in Dark Grey.
The Screw Driver, was initially metallic as pre-war, but was then produced in Grey...
...but Plimpton also experimented, on an apparently ad hoc basis, with Light Green, Red and Multicolour plastic before settling on the more familiar Darker Green of the 1950s.

The early post-war period was almost littered with manuals, there were so many variants in such a short period of time...
....in fact there were no less than ten different documents in the three years or so covered by this period...
