BAYKO Sets #1 to #5 Instruction Manual -
1935 - Updated for the Set #6 Launch

If you wanted to be grand you could say that this manual filled the interregnum between the first and second editions!
It is, in fact, identical to the very corrected version of the first BAYKO manual, [because that's what it is!] but it has been amended to recognise the launch of the new #6 sets.
The amendment is the pages [below] highlighted, like this script, in orange...
...attached, by a single staple, between pages 46 and 47 of the original manual.
There are only 10 extra pages, 8 made in the usual way from 2 full size sheets...
...and 2 made from a half-size sheet, attached by gluing pages vi and vii together.
To those unfamiliar with them, I offer my apologies for the Roman Numerals - but that is how Plimpton numbered these extra pages...

The resulting manual, clearly an expedient to save time and / or use up surplus stocks of the original 1934 manual, comprises 58 black and white pages, including photos of models, all on glossy white paper, with a two colour cover, printed in red and green on beige mat card.
Size - 187mm x 146mm = 7.3 x 5.75 inches.

The use of black and white photos for all the models shown in the manual must have represented a significant investment and commitment to the future of BAYKO.

There is an interesting anomaly in the model of a "Bungalow with Front Porch and Side Verandah" depicted on page 8 below...
...the 2 Windows which flank the front porch on the model are clearly white, not the green which would have matched the others on the model.
Officially these Windows weren't produced for several months, until the #6 set was launched!
Oh yes - there is something odd about the models photographed for this manual - can you spot it?
...the answer is down at the bottom, just after the last page.

If you look at the bases used in the pictures you'll see that they aren't BAYKO bases at all, but varnished and drilled to provide the necessary holes...
...the evidence is just about visible in the photographs, because you can see the occasional hole drilled for a previous model as the "bases" were re-used for different models...
...thanks to 'eagle eyes' Gary Birch for noticing this!!!
