BAYKO in 'Toy Trader', March, 1962

This was the third feature, which mentioned BAYKO, to appear, during the MECCANO era, in 'Toy Trader', a leading publication of the day for the British toy trade.

The timing of this ”advertising puff” is slightly odd. Clearly the intention was to communicate to the UK toy trade details of set #15 and the new range of BAYKO parts, but, in reality, these were not actually introduced for several months.
This item appeared in the ”New to You” section.
The article, which, though not exactly lengthy, spread over part of two pages, and reads as follows : -
Contemporary Built
A NEW outfit has been introduced into the range of Bayko building bricks. This is No. 15, which enables houses with an entirely contemporary look to be built. One model includes a picture window, verandah and large dormer in the roof. In addition to the complete new outfit, there are a number of new parts, which may be bought separately to enlarge the scope of the other sets available.
There is also a short script underneath the photo of the BAYKO model on the first page : -

The modern appearance of this model house illustrates the improvements in the new outfit.
The script here, when taken with other items, seems to point strongly to an intention to launch set #15 earlier than the August date which eventually materialised…
…this would have been the first step - letting the trade know…
…I wish I could find more information on what caused the delay.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of set #15 and the innovative new parts - it's the recurring incompetence that gets me!
