BAYKO in 'Games and Toys', March 1960

This is the first mention of BAYKO to appear in 'Games and Toys', the leading publication of the day for the British toy trade, following the MECCANO takeover announcement.
'Games and Toys' article, March, 1960
It appeared under the ”My Log” feature, and provides a short review of the inaugural MECCANO Trade Fair, set up in place of their attendance at the annual British Industries Fair.
The text is as follows : -
”Another Trade Fair which also opened on 19 February was the first Meccano Fair. It was held at the Grosvenor Hotel, Victoria, London. As always, I was fascinated by the working models, which included Blackpool and Eiffel Towers, a working model building site and a fun fair in full swing.”
”There were, of course, layouts of the famous Hornby Dublo miniature railway system, always a centre of attention, and reintroduced this year were the Hornby speedboats – three in number. They have hulls manufactured in high-impact polystyrene and are powered by powerful clockwork mechanisms. Since the takeover by Meccano of Plimpton’s, the original manufacturers, Bayko building outfits have been much improved and are now offered in new colours and presentations. There are four basic outfits and three conversion sets at present, and I understand that prices have been considerably reduced for the new range.”
The article needs no further comment from me, though I find the ”considerably reduced” price comment interesting, and can't help but agree with the sentiment behind the ”much improved” comment, BAYKO really did need to leave the 1930s behind!
